UG medical student drowns during outing with friends

A Sunday afternoon outing with friends turned tragic when a 24-year-old medical student of the University of Guyana (UG) took a fatal plunge into a creek at St Ignatius, Central Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo). The dead woman has been identified as Kimberlee Yow, also of St Ignatius, Lethem.

Dead: Kimberlee Yow

Based on reports received, on the day in question at about 15:00h, the third-year medical student was picked up by a group of friends to go swimming. However, shortly after 18:00h, her sister received a telephone call that Yow had drowned and that her body was subsequently retrieved.
The details surrounding the incident are still sketchy but her body is at the Lethem Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem. The now dead young woman, during her studies, stayed in Georgetown but returned to her native village since the tertiary institution closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the friends with whom the young woman went swimming were detained and questioned by the Police.
