Home News UG student granted bail for causing accident on Regent Street
A student of the University of Guyana (UG) was on Monday released on $20,000 bail after he was slapped with a dangerous driving charge.
Thirty-two-year-old Dwayne Nurse of Lot 693 Seventh Street, Paradise, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on December 25, 2018 at Regent Road, he drove motor car PWW 687 in a manner dangerous to the public.
Nurse, who is studying accountancy at the tertiary level, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore stated that on the day in question, Nurse was proceeding west along Regent Road when he allegedly swerved from potholes and ended up on the southern side of the road causing him to crash into a motorcyclist.
The court heard that the motorcyclist was tossed onto the road surface, causing him to receive injuries about his body. He was then picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he underwent surgery. The matter was then reported, and an investigation was carried out.
The Prosecutor made no objection to bail and the matter was rescheduled for July 12, 2019.
