UG to host 2nd virtual open day and job fair

The University of Guyana (UG) will host its second virtual open day and job fair on March 25 and 26, 2022, which will see thousands of prospective students, both locally and internationally, hoping to secure a place at the University of Guyana to further their academic career.
The 59-year-old tertiary institution offers over 150 programmes across 50 disciplines at the pre-university, diploma, degree, Master’s degree, and doctoral levels. At this weekend’s Open Day, persons will be able to meet and interact with faculty and administrative staff.

The two-day event seeks to provide all the necessary career, application, registration guidance and support to prospective students in helping them make informed decisions as they choose their next academic step.
Making the decision about where to go and what to study in higher education is usually bewildering for most people as it is life-changing. In addition to providing useful information, the event also seeks to educate and inform prospective students about campus life, student services offered by the Institution, and how they could cope effectively with the demands of tertiary education.
This year, the university will support economic well-being for students, alumni and the public by adding a new component – a job centre. This will allow graduates and other job seekers to access employment and internship opportunities from leading companies and organisations operating in Guyana.
The event will also seek to link companies and organisations with potential employees. Graduates and other job seekers could access a listing of vacancies and they could seek to have further engagements where they could submit an application and schedule an interview for a job.
In a virtual space, prospective students will have an opportunity to network and to engage university staff, faculty representatives, current students, members of UG’s Senior Management Team, and international and local businesses and partners. There will be a virtual auditorium, virtual lobby, virtual hall, and virtual booths for partners, sponsors, and the various faculties, schools, and institutes of the university. There will also be fun games, educational talks and prizes to be won.
The virtual platform provides a richer, more inclusive guest experience as the set of integrated chat rooms, polls, Q&A sessions, emoji reactions, seminars, and similar interactive elements are leveraged in creating a memorable experience. These features will make participants feel almost as if they were physically present at a face-to-face event, even though they are there virtually because of the rich immersive visual and interactive experiences.
The event is open free of cost to prospective students, parents, university staff and current students, alumni, partners and sponsors, and all other interested persons. Please click here to register: https://UGcareersuccessfair.uog.edu.gy.
UG extends sincere thanks to Schlumberger, its platinum sponsor as well as all of its other sponsors for supporting its 2022 virtual open day and job fair.
For the new academic year, the University of Guyana has launched a number of new programmes at the certificate, undergraduate and post-graduate levels in response to the growing need for quality, affordable and relevant academic programmes in Guyana and the Caribbean.
In addition, the university is pushing ahead in ensuring the realisation of one of its main goals of having at least one graduate per household as laid out in the institution’s 2040 Blueprint – a policy document that outlines the transformative direction of the university over the next twenty years.
The university’s administration is focused on ensuring that everyone who joins the university succeeds and is fully equipped with the skills necessary to cope in an ever-changing world.
