After scoring 91% at the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association (WICUA) oral and practical examinations in November last year, local umpire Yogeshwar Goberdhan is seeking to continue climbing the ladder in local and hopefully regional and international cricket.
The elated Goberdhan in speaking to Guyana Times Sport in a recent interview said “ I am very happy, wherever it takes me, I’m willing to go; I am fully qualified now so I will want to climb the regional ladder and beyond”.
At age 42, the umpire says that though his career might short-lived but still plans to do his best as there are allot of opportunities now for umpires in the region.
With six years of experience under his belt, is extremely appreciative of the advice given by the international umpires Nigel Duguid and Eddie Nicholls and is urging more younger persons to get involved in the sport, as the younger the join, is the greater chance they have of having a long and successful career.
As advice to those still practicing the profession, Goberdhan disclosed that the keys to success are remaining discipline, focused, impartial and most importantly keep abreast to the laws of the sport as they are constantly being updated.
The Georgetown Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association (GCUSA) along with WICUA secretary Vivian Johnson, sent congratulatory messages to Goberdhan and other successful umpires.
