Unarmed men escape with money safe from NIS office

Three unarmed men in the wee hours of Tuesday bound and gagged two security guards attached to the National Insurance Scheme branch at Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara (ECD) after which they broke into the building to remove a safe containing $600,000.

Based on reports received, the perpetrators accosted two female guards about 01:30h and took them to the back of the building where they were relieved of their service revolvers. After collecting the guns, the men reportedly emptied them of bullets and returned them to the guards.
The men then entered the building and made off with the metal safe containing the money.
The guards managed to untie themselves and raised an alarm. The Police were summoned to the scene and an investigation was launched. The Police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
