Home News Uncle arraigned for nephew’s murder
A West Coast Demerara (WCD) man who allegedly confessed to strangling his nephew to death earlier this week has been remanded to prison.
Ganesh Lall, 53, of Lot 78 Sixth Street, Anna Catherina, WCD, appeared at the Wales Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Dylon Bess.
The charge stated that he murdered 30-year-old Jason Hira of the same address on July 16, 2018. The accused was remanded, and the case transferred to the Leonora Magistrate’s Court for September 11.
On Monday morning, the lifeless body of Hira, who lived with his grandparents and uncle, was discovered in their washroom.
According to reports, the now dead man arrived at home in a drunken state about 01:30h and an argument was heard coming from the house. However, after some time, the argument ceased and then about 05:30h, an alarm was raised after the body of the man was found by his grandmother.
The Police were summoned and upon examination, they noticed marks of violence around Hira’s neck.
The body was taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where a post-mortem was performed by Dr Nehaul Singh, who gave the cause of death as compression injuries to the neck.
The grandparents and uncle were taken into custody and during interrogation, the latter admitted to detectives that he strangled his nephew, a known alcoholic in the community.
