Unidentified man killed in Better Hope accident

An unidentified man was on Monday evening pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was struck down by an alleged speeding car along the Better Hope Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The accident occurred at about 20:20h and involved a motor car bearing registration number PZZ 9593, driven by a 23-year-old man of Thomas Street, Kitty, Georgetown.

Based on information received, the motor car was reportedly driving along the roadway at a fast rate of speed when it is alleged by the driver that the now dead pedestrian was attempting to cross the road and walked into the path of his motor car.

As a result, the car collided with the pedestrian, thus causing him to fall onto the roadway where he received injuries about his body.
He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital by the Police where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting identification and post-mortem. Meanwhile, the driver was taken into custody and a breathalyser test was administered but there were no traces of alcohol in his system.
H remains in custody assisting with investigations.
