– 94 new cases recorded in 1 day
As of Monday, 1056 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in Guyana as the Health Ministry reported that a 69-year-old unvaccinated woman from Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) who tested positive for the disease died.
The pensioner died while receiving treatment at a medical facility.
However, new statistics provided by the Ministry showed that 94 new cases were detected from a total of 1204 tests thus taking the overall number of confirmed cases to 40,154. Of the total confirmed cases, 18,935 are males and 21,219 are females.
The new infections were recorded in Region One (Barima-Waini): two cases; Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara): 14 cases; Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica): 43 cases; Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice): two cases; and Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne): 23 cases.
One case each was recorded in Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), and Region 10. There are currently six patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Infectious Disease Hospital.
Further, the Ministry reported that 47 persons are in institutional isolation, 1281 are in home isolation, and seven persons are in institutional quarantine. As of Monday, the total number of recovered cases was 37,764. To date, the Ministry has done 429,855 tests.
As of Monday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said that 281,808,270 cases were reported globally along with 5,411,759 deaths. The WHO also reported that in the Region of the Americas, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has increased to 102,287,397 while the death toll stands at 2,404,354.
The Health Ministry is reminding the public to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 Emergency Measures which are in effect until January 31, 2022.
This order emphasises the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home, maintaining six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
