The three persons who were killed in this morning’s accident at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice (WCB) have been identified as 23-year-old Carlos Edwards, 61-year-old Hookumchand Parmanand, and a woman who is yet to be identified.
The injured persons are 57-year-old Lakeram Mangal, 27-year-old Joyclyn Cole, and a six-month-old baby girl.
All of the persons were passengers in a taxi being driven by Edwards.
Reports are that at around 04:30hrs today, the motorcar HC 6077 was proceeding west along the southern side of Fort Wellington Public Road at a fast rate during heavy downpours.
While negotiating a left bend in the road, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle and collided into GECOM’s concrete and mesh fence before ploughing into a GTT lamp pole and then finally turning turtle in a drain.
As a result of the collision, the driver and passengers received injuries about their bodies.
They were rushed to Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where they were seen and examined by a doctor on duty who pronounced the driver and two passengers dead.
The other passengers were treated and later transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further medical treatment.
Mangal is being treated for lacerations to his head, and his condition is regarded as critical but stable. Cole’s condition is regarded as stable while the baby’s condition is regarded as critical but stable.
