Upper Corentyne is eight wicket away from victory against Upper Demerara East Bank after Assad Fudadin’s
Akshaya Persaud
exploits on day two of the penultimate round of the Jaguars Franchise League at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
On Saturday, Fudadin registered a century to follow up his first innings score of 92 as he put his side in a certain position to attain victory. He finished unbeaten on 101 not out inclusive of 10 fours to propel Upper Corentyne to 286-7 declared.
All-rounder Clinton Pestano made an attacking 84 (4×4; 7×6) while Jason Sincalir made 45 including with seven fours. Meanwhile, bowling for East Bank Demerara, Steven Jacobs finished with 4/69 and was aided by Sherfane Rutherford with 3/50.
Earlier East Bank Demerara, resumed on 75/4 and did not add anything of significance as they crawled to 97/9 before declaring. Danny Narayan was dismissed without addition to his overnight score of 30.
Bowling for Upper Corentyne, Eon Hooper claimed his fourth five wicket haul of the competition ending with 5/13 and got good support from Keon Sinclair who took 3/29.
Set a target of 436 to win with more than a day to spare, East Bank reached 24/2 at the close of play chasing 412 for an outright victory.
At Tuschen ground, West Demerara resuming on 22/0 were led by Akshaya Persaud’s brilliant 155 as they made 329 in reply to Lower Corentyne’s score of 325 and to gain first innings honours.
The former national junior player, Persaud struck 13 fours and nine sixes. He was supported by Safraz Esau 36, Raymon Reifer 34 and Rishi Looknauth 27.
Another former junior player, all-rounder Sharaz Ramcharan (5-53) captured five wickets in the innings.
At Imam Bacchus, Essequibo rattled up 484 all out. Rayon Fredericks top scored with 87 while Kemo Paul struck 82, Ricardo Adams 73, Avinash Persaud 72 and Anthony Adams hit 61. Bowling for East Coast Demerara, Steven Sankar claimed 5/152 and Ameer Khan 2/73.
East Coast Demerara were 2/1 at the close of play.
Meanwhile at Cumberland, West Berbice were dismissed for 113 in reply to Georgetown’s first innings 243. Andrew Dutchin top scored with 36. Bowlong for Georgetown, Gajanan Suknanan had 3/25, Christopher Barnwell and Kellon Carmichael took 2/18 apiece, Devon Lord 2/24.
Georgetown in their second innings rattled up 308/6 declared with Andrew Lyght Jnr. making a blistering 119 while Sunil Singh made 52, Robin Bacchus 50 and Kellon Carmichael 26 not out being the principle scorers. Keyron Fraser had 2/49 and Dutchin claimed 2/103.
West Berbice are 112/2 chasing 439 for victory. Avishkar Sewkarran is on 59 not out.
