US-based Guyanese on $600,000 bail for illegal gold export charge

A US-based Guyanese businessman has been charged with the offence of exporting gold without a license in violation of Section 8 of the Guyana Gold Board Act.
Saffee Ahmad, of Queens, New York, and also of Roraima Scheme, Versailles, West Bank Demerara, was arrested by an officer from the major crime investigation unit.
Ahmad appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded not guilty. He was released on $600,000 and the case was adjourned to June 24.
