Police in Regional Division Four C are investigating an incident at Success, East Coast Demerara (ECD), which resulted in the death of a 77-year-old pensioner and left a 25-year-old woman hospitalised.
Dead is Mohadai Sankar, 77, a resident of Success, who was visiting from the United States.
Reports are that the incident occurred at about 07:00h on Friday, and according to preliminary information, Sankar was at the premises with the 25-year-old woman and two other persons when they were attacked by a swarm of bees believed to have come from the roof of a neighbouring house.
The victims sustained multiple suspected bee stings during the attack, Police said, and were assisted and transported to medical facilities. Sankar was taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where she succumbed at about 18:45h while receiving treatment. The 25-year-old woman was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where her condition has been listed as stable. Sankar’s body was escorted to Jerricks Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police visited the scene, and personnel from the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute were summoned to the area. The situation was subsequently brought under control. Investigations are ongoing.
