US trounce Mexico to lift CONCACAF U-20 Championship

The United States are champions of the CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship for a fifth time. They defeated Mexico 4-1 in the Final of the 2020 CUW20 on Sunday afternoon at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

A glimpse of the action between USA and Mexico in the final match

Trinity Rodman and Mia Fishel both bagged braces to enable the U.S. victory; and although Mexico had a dream start by taking a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute of play through a Silvana Flores left-footed shot that was hammered in from outside the area, the U.S. response was immediate, as Rodman brought her side level in the 12th minute with a right-footed volley.
The U.S. had the momentum, and nearly took a lead in the 38th minute, when Katelyn Duong’s shot hit the post.
The goal that forged them ahead came in the second half, when Fishel pounced on a rebound to give the U.S. a 2-1 advantage in the 49th minute.
Fishel struck again in the 57th minute, to extend the U.S. lead to 3-1, when she produced a header for her 13th goal of the tournament.
Rodman then completed her brace with a right-footed finish in the 88th minute that capped the score line at 4-1.
