Home News US warns citizens of robberies in Massy’s parking lot
The United States (US) Embassy in Guyana is cautioning its citizens here about late-night robberies taking place in the parking lot of the Massy’s Grocery Store located in Providence, East Bank Demerara.
An advisory issued by the embassy has said it has received multiple reports of such incidents, mostly occurring after 20:00h; and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the management of Massy’s have also confirmed the increase in criminal activity since July.
“The embassy encourages US citizens to remain vigilant when travelling late at night, and to avoid dark secluded areas, as criminal activity is more prevalent in these situations”.
Additionally, while acknowledging that the GPF has increased nightly patrols of the area, the embassy has recommended that “shoppers avoid displaying valuables when walking around the store or parking lot,” the advisory detailed.
The embassy is urging US citizens that should any become victim of such an incident, they should comply with perpetrators’ instructions to avoid any serious threats.
“The embassy security office suggests (that) if you become the victim of a crime, immediately comply with the assailant’s request; do not resist. And as soon as possible, find a place of safety and contact the Police by dialling 911,” it added.
