US$100M cement factory to create employment in Essequibo

As Guyana braces itself for infrastructural transformation, Vas Energy Inc and the Georgetown Cement Inc have teamed up to invest in a whopping US$100 million cement factory at La Resource, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).

Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, Dr KJ Srinivasa; Prime Minister Representative Arnold Adams, Vijay Sukhdeo and GO-Invest CEO Dr Peter Ramsroop at the sod-turning exercise on Wednesday

A sod-turning ceremony was held at the construction site in La Resource, which signals the commencement of construction of the state-of-the-art facility that will employ scores of locals.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GO-Invest, Dr Peter Ramsaroop told the gathering that creating jobs for Guyanese tops the agenda for the People’s Progressive Party/Civic Administration and with the recent investment, it will definitely assist in making the party’s goals realised.
“Guyana’s economy is booming and there are many job opportunities that will be available for the people in Guyana… Opportunities will be created to join in such work, and they will be made available to all. I recognise that there are communities within our society which, because of disadvantages of geographic location, will need more help than others to join our national advance,” Dr Ramsaroop noted.
He added that as the country’s infrastructure booms, there will be a high demand for cement and lauded the investment, noting that GO-Invest will pay keen attention to the project.
Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, Dr Srinivasa, who was at the sod-turning event, stated, “I am very much happy to be a part of this sod-turning ceremony…and as I can see thus far… Guyana is set for take-off. If you take a keen look at cost of importing cement, it will be seen that there is an additional drain in Guyana… And on the other hand, if your country produces that produce or material there will not only be saving on foreign exchange but also earnings.”
Dr Srinivasa noted that the construction of the cement plant will be a major advantage to residents of Essequibo and will be a platform for employment opportunities. Once in operation, the cement company will be supplying other Caribbean countries.
