The driver of the vehicle was taken into Police custody as the investigation continues.
When Guyana Times visited the Cummings Lodge home where Brazlon was spending time, the father of her fiancé, Jonathan Yearwood appeared distraught as he said, “It’s a very tragic time for us.”
According to the senior Yearwood, Brazlon arrived in Guyana on October 2 to spend some time with her fiancé. It was also indicated that she was planning to celebrate her 21st birthday on Saturday.
“She came to spend time with her fiancé … It’s an accident and accidents happen. We’re not blaming anyone. We’re not blaming the driver of the car.”
Sources claimed that the driver was recently awarded a scholarship grant to complete his studies and become a pilot. The now dead woman’s relatives reside in Trinidad and family members of the fiancé are hoping that her family would be able to make it for the funeral, since they plan on organising the final rites for Saturday in accordance to Islamic rituals.
“The only relatives she has in Guyana are us,” the senior Yearwood said. A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted today.
