Valmiki Vidyalaya High School make impressive windball debut

Overhand windball cricket made its return to the National Gymnasium since 2011 with The Forbes Burnham Foundation Inter Secondary School boys and girls tournament. The tournament is a joint effort of the Ministry of Education through the National Sports Commission and is organized by the AL Sport & Tour Promotions.
Debutant Valmiki Vidyalaya High School and Saint Stanislaus College won both girls and boys matches.
The girls had a memorable baptism beating Queen’s College by 25 runs. Valmiki Vidyalaya High School batted first and were led by a record opening partnership of 110, with Jerusha Tappin 38, Tina Ramsammy 26, extras 46 to help their team to a score of 127 of their allotted five overs.

Saint Stanislaus College made 95-2 with Cherub Autar 26, Seekumarie Mangru 24 and Rebeina Chaunjie 17 getting starts. In reply, St. Mary’s Secondary were restricted to 80-4 falling short by 15 runs. Deandra Freaser 28 and Aaleyah Maxwell made 10 while extras contributed a healthy 38.
In the Boys category, Valmiki Vidyalaya High School followed in the girls’ path with a similar result. They beat QC by 28 runs thanks to their opening partnership as well. The debutants made 107 without loss with openers Kemraj Mohabir 62 and Johanatan Ramjattan 39 totally dominating the QC bowling.
Queen’s College were then limited to 79-4 with Luke Mangal 17.
Saint Stanislaus College took first strike and made 94-1 with Veeraj Persaud scoring 45 and Kennard Moonsammy 41. Christ Church Secondary fell 15 runs short when they were restricted to 79-3 with Ariel Tilku 31, Reaz Drepaul 17 and Renaldo Mohamed 15 getting among the runs.
In the final match of the day, St. Mary’s tallied an impressive 139-1 total. Stephon Wilson hit an attractive half century scoring 79 while Michael Lynn made 42. They then restricted Queenstown Secondary to 76-2. Jeffrey Blair with 39 and O Baker 23 could not prevent their team from crashing to a 63-run defeat.
