Vanita Willie is Guyana’s Chutney Queen 2017

After intense rivalry among 14 top chutney singers in Guyana, Vanita Willie was on Saturday last crowned Chutney Queen 2017, when the competition was held at the Rose Hall Canje Ground, Berbice. Willie with her tune, “Powah” definitely captured the judges’ attention for her lyrics and outstanding stage performance.
The mandir singer who has been competing in the competition for quite some time was elated to have been crowned the new Chutney Monarch but credited all the other participants for their exemplary performances.  Bunty Singh Roger Hinds Vicardi Wallie
Coming in second was former Chutney King, Bunty Singh, who performed “Harmunium Bhajawey”. Although he put up a fantastic show and had his fans backing him, the judges decided he was second best. He nevertheless, congratulated the new Chutney Queen and is already gearing up for the 2018 competition.
Taking the third spot was another former Chutney King, Roger Hinds. He performed his rendition “Meri Patni Ah Horn Meh”. Some thought it was just a continuation to his 2016 song but the judges were pleased with his performance.
Finally, coming in the fourth position was a newcomer on the scene, Vicadi Singh, with “Family Doh Like Meh”. All of the 14 contestants were backed by the Shakti Strings Band.
Organisers of the event are extremely pleased with the quality of music and the support that chutney music has been receiving over the years.
