Vendor charged for $1.4M gold heist

A 31-year-old vendor was on Thursday hauled before the courts to answer to a charge of robbery after more than $1 million worth of gold jewellery was stolen.
Leonard Farley, of Lot 3 Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD), denied the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman.
The court heard that Farley on September 29, 2018 at Black and White Bridge ,Tucville, East La Penitence while being armed with a knife robbed Wayne Brakes of four gold chains valued $664,000, eight gold chains $600,000 and a gold band valued $205,000, a total value of $1,469,000.
Defence Attorney George Thomas informed the court that his client was nowhere near the area when the incident occurred and as such, made an application for bail to be granted in a reasonable sum.
However, Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman remanded him to prison until October 10, 2018.
