A 28-year-old Venezuelan national was arrested on Saturday evening after he was found with a quantity of cocaine in his possession in the vicinity of Tank Road, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD). Police stated that ranks were conducting a patrol exercise when they observed the suspect from the Herstelling Squatting Area riding a bicycle with a sling bag around his shoulder. However, upon seeing the police, he disposed of the bag into a nearby yard and attempted to evade them.

He was eventually arrested after putting up some resistance. The bag was subsequently retrieved and upon checking, 14 transparent plastic parcels containing a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine were found. The narcotics along with the suspect, were taken to the Providence Police Station, where the cocaine was weighed and amounted to 10.5 grams. Meanwhile, another police operation at Herstelling Squatting Area, EBD on Saturday has led to the arrest of an 18-year-old Venezuelan national with a quantity of cannabis, a black ski mask, a knife, three cellular phones and a toy gun.

Police stated that they were conducting an operation in the area during which they searched several wooden shacks, including one occupied by the suspect, where several small Ziplock bags containing the ganja and the other items were found.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Providence Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed and amounted to two grams. Both suspects remain in custody pending charges.
