Venezuelan fined for illegal entry

A Venezuelan man was fined ,000 when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan charged for entering Guyana illegally.
Raphael Vogas, 23, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and accepted the charge against him.
He admitted to entering Guyana by sea on October 25, 2017, at Eteringbang, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and disembarked without presenting himself to an immigration officer.
The prosecution revealed that a Police raid was being carried out in the community of Eteringbang when Vogas was found.
Investigations carried out showed the defendant entered Guyana illegally, and as such, he was arrested and charged.
In plea of mitigation, Vogas revealed to the court and provided documents, which proved that he is married to a Guyanese woman. As such, the Chief Magistrate did not deport him but rather fined him. Failure to pay the fine will result in serving three weeks imprisonment.
