Venezuelan remanded on illegal ammo charge

A Venezuelan man who was allegedly caught with illegal ammunition was on Wednesday taken before Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Jorge Guerreiro appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty and denied the charge which stated that on October 16, 2019 at Cuyuni River, Essequibo, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), he had in his possession 16 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Defence Attorney Ravindra Mohabir, in a bail application, said that his 49-year-old client had no knowledge of the ammunition.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that on October 16, ranks who were on patrol in the area saw Guerreiro and carried out a search of his belongings According to the Prosecutor, during the search, the ammunition was discovered in Guerreiro’s haversack. The court also heard that Guerreiro admitted ownership of the ammunition.
He was remanded to prison, and the case was scheduled to continue at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court on December 16, 2019.
