Home News Venezuelan teen accused of assaulting schoolboy
– at Sister’s Village, WBD
A 16-year-old supermarket attendant who was born in Venezuela was on Thursday released on $10,000 bail on allegations that he unlawfully wounded a fellow 16-year-old boy, a secondary school student at Post Office Street, Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara. The alleged incident was said to have occurred on Monday.
The matter was held in-camera at the Wales Magistrate’s Court due to both males being juveniles. The West Demerara school boy reportedly received lacerations to his head and appeared at court with fresh sutures on Thursday.
Reports are that the Venezuelan teen waited as the school boy was passing and reportedly hit him to his head with a wooden object and allegedly ran away from the scene after committing the act. However, the foreign born youth, who is of Guyanese heritage, denies the allegation, and reportedly contended that the accuser was the aggressor.
At Thursday’s arraignment, the Venezuelan entered a not guilty plea when the charge was read to him in court.
Guyana Times understands that the wounding stemmed from a personal matter where a Guyanese cousin of the Venezuelan youth and a cousin of the school boy shared a rocky relationship and would often engage in heated confrontations.
There was a recent incident where family members of both youths physically sparred and it is believed that this led to the altercation between the two young males. They will return to court on November 2.
