Veteran Football tournament set to kickoff today

Several former national football players will be in action at the Tucville Community Centre ground, starting this weekend. The ‘Clash of Veterans’ tournament is being organised by the Alex Bunbury Sports and Academic Academy in partnership with the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and main sponsor Banks DIH Limited.

The tournament dubbed ‘’The Super 10 Clash’’ will field veteran football teams from Georgetown, East Coast Demerara and West Bank Demerara.

The round-robin, knockout tournament will run for close to a month, and features clubs led by Dion Barnwell, Chris Barnwell, Anthony Stanton, Gordon Braithwaite, Mortimer Stewart, Floyd Cadogan, Rawle Jones and Terrence Lewis.

The Super 10 teams are Pele FC, Beacon FC, Santos FC, Wales FC, Western Tigers FC, Rastas FC, Thomas United FC, Newtown Masters, Park Rangers and Plaisance FC.

Trophies and cash prizes are at stake, while the tournament has also received support from Star Party Rentals and Guyana all-rounder Christopher Barnwell.

Action will kick off at 13:00h today at Tucville Ground with a Women’s Mixed Team game, before the veteran games get underway at 15:00h.

The round-robin action will continue at Parade Ground on May 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 with the semi-finals and final set for June 3 and 4. Entry to all games is free.
