Wakenaam murder: Son charged for hacking father to death

Rocky Miguel,26, of Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast, who hacked his father Archaelus to death, was on Monday arraigned for the heinous crime at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Ali-Seepaul.
He was not required to plead to the indictment, which stated that on September 9, at Great Troolie Island, Essequibo River, he murdered Archaelus Anthony Miguel. He has been remanded to prison until November 11, 2021.
It has been reported that the 26-year-old son confessed to the heinous crime moments after he committed the act.

Initial reports state that Miguel and the suspect had left for the backdam, but after some time, the son returned and claimed that he was unwell. He also claimed that his father was in the backdam, but upon making checks for the man, only his pants and a cellphone were found.
The suspect reportedly travelled to Troolie Island, where villagers further questioned him, and it was then he related, “I chop he up, caz he de troubling me”.
He was arrested, and subsequently took ranks to the scene. On arrival, he pointed to the area where he allegedly chopped his father, thence to the area where he had dragged the body and hid it under some branches. The body bore multiple chop wounds on all parts, including the face.
Guyana Times was told that the now dead man and his son Rocky would work all day until 16:00h, but on the day in question, his son requested to leave at about 15:00h.

His employer thought something was amiss, since he was acting in a strange manner. As such, the owner of the farm reportedly instructed him to wait until his father returned before leaving. After some time had elapsed and the man did not return, the owner summoned several relatives to assist in searching for the man, but it proved futile.
Instead, the employer told Guyana Times, the man’s cell phone, some of his tools and his pants were found on the ground. At that time, the woman informed relatives and residents that Archaelus Miguel was missing. Upon questioning the man’s son, he confessed to the heinous crime.
Meanwhile, an autopsy performed on the remains of Archaelus Miguel revealed that he had sustained a total of 24 chop wounds to the head and other parts of the body.
