President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Wayne Forde, expressed delight and satisfaction in the continued progress of the sport when he delivered brief remarks at the launching of the West Demerara leg of the GFF-Pele Alumni Frank Watson U–15 Intra-Association tournament at the Wales Community Centre Ground, West Bank Demerara, last Saturday.
“This tournament is a critical pillar in the GFF youth development structure and is the second of
the nationwide intra-association youth development league first introduced by my administration

in 2016,” Forde stated.
He further said that the tournament is countrywide and is being played in all Regional Member
Associations (RMAs) to capture untapped talent across the ten regions. The GFF President
further disclosed that scouts will be present during the tournament in search for new talent and
will work under the direction of the Technical Director, Ian Greenwood. The scouted players will
then be enlisted into the GFF-Scotiabank Academy Training Centres (ATCs) and will be exposed to a national age-specific coaching programme, conducted every week. Three of the
RMAs – Rupununi, East Bank and the Upper Demerara – have already launched their leg of the
tournament.

Meanwhile, two matches were completed just after the formalities concluded and in the first,
Den Amstel FC and Eagles United FC played to a 1-1 stalemate. Matthew Debarias netted for
Den Amstel in the 18th minute while, Nickel Whyte, while Romel Medas brought the situation back to
equilibrium for Eagles United in the 26th minute.
In the feature attraction, Wales FC enjoyed a field day over a combined team, triumphing by a 7-
1 margin. Treve Cornnell netted a hat trick for the winners in the 55th, 65th and 68th minutes and
was supported by a Telbert Baptiste brace in the 19th and 28th minutes with other contributions
from Akeem Douglas (38th) and Issacc Sampson (45th). Arvin Pollard pulled one back in the 50th
minute for the losing team.
The action continues next Saturday afternoon at the same venue with another double header; Den
Amstel takes on the Combined Team in the supporter to the feature attraction where Wales
United tackle Eagles FC. (GFF Media)
