Walkover gives Smythfield Rockers first win

A Ally and Sons Senior Basketball Championship

A failure by Fyrish Black Sharks to take the field at the scheduled start, gave Smythfield Rockers their first win in the A. Ally and Sons Senior Basketball Championship on Sunday.
The championship which is sanctioned by the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) was held at the Vryman’s Erven Court, and the walkover result meant Rockers secured three points.
According to the organizers, the event will be played on a round-robin basis and features six teams from BABA.
Upon the completion of the group stage, the top two teams from each zone will progress to the elimination round.
The other competing teams are Ithaca Hardliners, New Amsterdam Warriors, Rose Hall Town Jammers and the Guyana Human Development Centre (GHDC).
Group-A will comprise of Smithfield Rockers, Black Sharks and Ithaca Hardliners while group-B will consist of Rose Hall Town Jammers, GHDC and New Amsterdam Warriors.
Trophies and Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams while the Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy will also be up for grabs.
Action in the event will resume Sunday at the Tain Basketball Court from 16:00hrs, with Rose Hall Town Jammers locking horns with GHDC. Matches in the tournament are being held every Sunday.
