
Vemen Walter returned as President of the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club when the club held its annual general meeting recently at the Albion Community Centre’s Main Hall.
Walter, one of the most experienced and proven cricket administrators in Guyana and a highly respected human resources professional, was re-elected unopposed to serve for a seventh straight term, having also held the position for five years from 1995 to 1999.
Retired GuySuCo Albion Estate Senior Laboratory Technician Imtiaz Baccus, with over 28 years of service to Albion’s cricket as an administrator, was re-elected as Vice President, and so too were Secretary Naeeem Khan and Treasurer Orvin Mangru.
Khan is an agriculturalist who is currently in the teaching profession, while Mangru, a former Guyana youth and Berbice Senior Inter-County off-spinner, is now an established building contractor in Berbice.
Former Albion and Berbice youth cricketer, currently a school teacher at the Port Mourant Secondary School, Adrian Singh will continue as the club’s assistant secretary/treasurer, while Sewnarine Chattergoon, Devendra Bishoo, and Veerasammy Permaul, along with Zameer Khan, Fabian Naiken, Ramalingum Mangali, and Sandeep Ramdass, will all serve as committee members.
Chattergoon, Bishop, and Permaul are all former Test cricketers from Albion, while Khan, currently a Field Superintendent at GuySuCo’s Albion Estate, has also represented Albion at the first division level and Berbice at the under-19 level.
Naiken is an experienced cricket coach and administrator who has served the club with excellence over the years, while Mangali and Ramdass are prominent businessmen in the Albion area.
The newly elected executives will be meeting shortly to name the club’s Captains, Vice Captains, and managers of the respective teams, together with the club’s subcommittees for the year 2026.
