Wanted Baramita man shot by Police

A Baramita, North West District (NWD) resident who is wanted for several offences committed within the community has been hospitalised in stable condition after he was shot twice in the leg by a Policeman during his arrest.
According to Police reports, the incident occurred about 17:00h on Monday at Williams Area, Baramita
Guyana Times understands that two Police Constables, both of whom were armed with their service weapons, approached the suspect with the intention of arresting him for the crimes he committed against residents in the village.
However, in resisting arrest, the man assaulted the Officers and attempted to chop one of them. However, the other rank instinctively intervened and shot the suspect in his right leg in an attempt to stop him. Instead of desisting, the suspect turned his attention to the cop who shot him and charged menacingly towards the Officer with his cutlass raised.
In self-defence, the cop discharged another round at the suspect, hitting him again in the right leg.
The ranks then managed to quickly disarm the suspect and rushed him to the Baramita Health Centre where he was treated. The suspect was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he has been admitted under guard.
Investigations are ongoing.
