A 21-year-old miner of Puruni Landing, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), who was wanted by police for allegedly stealing his mother’s laptop, was arrested with a quantity of narcotics in his possession.
The suspect was detained sometime around 11:30hrs on Saturday at the Itaballi Checkpoint. At the time he was in possession of a bag, and during an examination of his possessions, police ranks unearthed 530 grams of cannabis.
However, shortly after his arrest, the suspect bolted to freedom after he managed to free himself from the ranks. But this attempt to freedom was short-lived, since he was recaptured shortly after.
As a result of that incident, an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody will now be added to those expected to be instituted against him. Thus he is expected to face a simple larceny charge, and possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charges besides the escaping from lawful custody charge.
Nevertheless, investigations are continuing.
