Wanted man nabbed, brother arrested for alleged bribery

A wanted Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara farmer was on Monday taken into Police custody after he dodged Police Officers for several weeks. Arrested is Bishomit Rajkumar of Champagne, Mahaicony, who was convicted for his involvement in an unlawful wounding incident.

Following his failure to appear in court, Rajkumar was on May 12 sentenced in absentia to two years’ imprisonment. The man had since been on the run, but was cornered at his Mahaicony home on Monday, after ranks of the Police Force were tipped off.

Based on reports received, Police acting on the information went to Mahaicony, where the wanted man was detained and taken into custody.

However, moments after his apprehension, his brother approached the Police ranks and offered them $150,000 to free his brother. As a result, the Police in turn arrested the 25-year-old man and charged him for bribery. The money has been lodged as evidence.

Despite his many efforts to resist confinement, Rajkumar will be escorted to the Camp Street Prison where he will commence his two-year sentence. Moreover, his brother is being processed for court and is set to be arraigned.
