The first edition of the Guyana Water Inc Under-17 Cricket Tournament organised by the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Cricket Development Committee bowls off on Saturday with matches scattered across the ancient county. The tournament involves 17 teams – Bush Lot, Bush Lot United, Blairmont A, Blairmont B, Tucber Park, Young Warriors A, Young Warriors B, No. 19 Kendall Union, Toopoo, Tamarind Root, Rose Hall Town Bakewell, Big Star, Rose Hall Town
Metro Females, No. 72 Cut and Load, No. 73, Scottsburg and Skeldon.
The Tournament will be played on a knock-out basis and 40-Overs per side, starting at 11:00h sharp. Club Secretary/CEO, Hilbert Foster stated that the tournament forms part of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club plans for junior cricketers in Berbice to get them involved in playing the game at the competitive level.
With the Berbice Cricket Board not able to fully operate due to a Court Injunction, clubs have been starved of competitive matches. Clubs are reminded that players have to be born on or after the September 1, 2000 and that walk over would be granted to opposing teams if a team fails to show up 30 minutes after the scheduled start time of 11:00h.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club would also like to inform all teams that no form of indiscipline would be tolerated and that all decisions of the Umpires are final. The Winning Team of the Knock-out Competition would receive $40,000 and a trophy while the Runner-up would carry home $20,000 and a trophy. The Man of the finals along with the tournament’s best batsman and bowler would receive special prizes.
