A businessman was arrested by cops on Sunday morning after he was found with an illegal firearm and ammunition.
According to Police, at about 00:30h, ranks acting on information received went to School Street in Good Fortuin, West Bank Demerara, where they approached a 34-year-old businessman, who was standing in his yard.
One of the officers informed him of the suspicion that he possessed a firearm on his premises without a licence and requested to conduct a search on his person and property. The man allowed the Police to search him and his home. Nothing illegal was found but then officers proceeded to the upper floor of the two-storey building, where searches were conducted on the back veranda in the man’s presence, and inside a barrel containing clothing, the officers discovered one .38 revolver with the serial number filed off and six live matching rounds of ammunition.
A further search led to the discovery of a small black rectangular box containing 65 live 9mm rounds of ammunition and one black 9mm magazine. The man was arrested and allegedly claimed ownership of the ammunition but denied possessing the gun.
He was taken to the La Grange Police Station and remains in custody as the investigation continues. (G9)
