WBD man gets 4 years for armed robbery, other crimes

A man who was found guilty of three charges, including armed robbery, was sentenced to four years behind bars by Magistrate Wanda Fortune when he appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Cleon Phoenix, who hails from 113 Good Intent, West Bank Demerara (WBD), pleaded guilty to the charges of possession of firearm and ammunition without being the holder of a licence and an armed robbery charge.
The court heard that on March 20, 2020, at Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Phoenix robbed a Chinese national of $125,000 and an iPhone 6S valued $58,000.
He was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on the possession of firearm charge, two years for the possession of ammunition and four years for the robbery under arms charge.
The sentences will run concurrently.
