WBD man on $10,000 bail for operating private hire car

Zankie Bernard, of Vaux Hall, Canal Number One Polder, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was on Monday released on ,000 bail by Magistrate Clive Nurse for operating a private hire car.
When the charge was read out to the 36-year-old construction worker, Bernard pleaded not guilty to the allegation that on June 23 at Meer Zorgen Public Road, WBD, he drove motor car PVV 2001 for a purpose other than what it was intended for.
The father of one will make his next court appearance on July 14. Over the past few weeks, a number of drivers operating such cars have been placed before the courts and Traffic Chief, Superintendent Dion Moore has warned citizens against the practice. Moore was quoted last week as saying that the Guyana Police Force Traffic Department charged 369 persons thus far who used their cars for a purpose other than which they were licensed for.
