WCB labourer critical after being hit down by a minibus

The Guyana Police Force is investigating the circumstances that led to a minibus colliding with a pedestrian on the West Coast Berbice Public Road.

Based on information received, 55-year-old Maxwell Mona of Chester Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB) is in a critical state at the New Amsterdam Hospital after he was struck down by a minibus on Monday.

Police say the incident occurred just about 18:20h on the Chester Public Road.

The 34-year-old driver of the minibus told Police that Mona suddenly ran in front of his vehicle which was proceeding west on the southern lane of the Chester Public Road.

The driver said that he applied brakes to avoid a collision but despite the effort, the left side front portion of the vehicle hit the pedestrian resulting in his falling onto the roadway and receiving injuries about his body. He was picked up in an unconscious state by the driver and taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where he was treated and subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

He is now in the Intensive Care Unit.
