– remanded ahead of sentencing

A West Coast Berbice (WCB), Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) man who was on trial for a sexual offence committed against a child has been found guilty by a jury at the Berbice High Court. He was remanded to prison pending sentencing.
Robert Campbell, 37, was on trial at the Berbice Assizes before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall. On Monday, the jury returned a guilty verdict. Campbell, who was represented by Attorney-at-Law Samantha Brown, had denied the allegation when the matter first came before the court. The trial proceeded with the State calling several witnesses, including law enforcement and medical personnel. Following the verdict, the court ordered that a probation report, a psychiatric evaluation of the accused, and a victim impact statement be prepared ahead of sentencing.
Justice Morris-Ramlall subsequently remanded Campbell to prison and adjourned the matter to May 6, 2026 when the sentence is expected to be handed down.
The charge stemmed from an incident that occurred in Berbice involving a minor. (G-4)
