WCB man gets 4 years for armed robbery, possession of firearm

– accomplice remanded to prison

Marlon Vossey, 20, of No 5 Village, West Coast Berbice, was on Monday sentenced to 4 years’ imprisonment while his accomplice, 21-year-old Shaquille McDonald of Independence Boulevard, La Penitence, Georgetown, was remanded to prison on an armed robbery charge.

The two men appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Lambert where Vossey pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him. McDonald, however, pleaded not guilty.
They were charged under Section 222 (c) of the Criminal Law Offences Act, Chapter 8:01. In addition, Vossey also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm without a licence. He was again sentenced to 4 years’ imprisonment and fined $100,000. Both sentences will run concurrently.
Meanwhile, since McDonald pleaded not guilty, he was remanded and will make his next court appearance on November 8.
The third suspect is expected to face criminal charges after he is discharged from the hospital.

It was reported that the three men were arrested on Friday last after executing a daring robbery on a Good Hope, Essequibo Coast businessman and his family. The men reportedly stole $1.8 million in cash and jewellery during the robbery.
The 46-year-old businessman reported that $1.5 million in cash and three gold chains were taken from his residence in the wee hours of Friday. He recalled at about 01:30h on the day in question, he woke up to use the washroom during which he was confronted by the three men.
He was reportedly held at gunpoint and lashed to the face. During the ordeal, the businessman reportedly ran upstairs and began to scream for assistance, thus resulting in the men making good their escape.
It was later the victim realised that the money and jewellery were missing. The Police were called in and based on information received, the suspects were arrested and charged.
