WCD fisherman granted bail for allegedly assaulting wife

As cases of Guyanese women losing their lives at the hands of partners continue to be recorded, another alleged woman beater was hauled before the court on allegations of assaulting his spouse.
Thirty-five-year-old fisherman Seecharan Kissoon was recently arraigned at the Wales Magistrate’s Court for assaulting his wife, causing her actual bodily harm.
The prosecution’s case stated that the matter occurred on June 24, 2018 on the West Coast of Demerara.
However, when Kissoon appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess, he entered a not-guilty plea in a barely audible tone. The father of two said he had no previous court matters even as the prosecution contended that Kissoon had previously threatened the Virtual Complainant.
As such, Kissoon was granted bail in the sum of $20,000 and will return to court on September 21, at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
Meanwhile, the woman was encouraged by the court to seek a protection order against the accused though she claimed that the assault was the first of its kind.
Just recently, a father was placed on a bond for six months after he assaulted his adult pregnant daughter who objected to his disorderly drunken behaviour. One women’s rights activist called for stiffer penalties for guilty perpetrators.
