WCD man arrested for ganja possession

One man was arrested on Saturday evening after he was found with a quantity of ganja at Lite Street Crane, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Police stated that on the day, at about 18:30h, ranks acting on information received went to the area where they contacted the 25-year-old suspect.
The suspect at the time was clad in short black pants and a black jersey, standing on the eastern side of the road in front of a shop entrance, and was seen acting in a suspicious manner.
A Police Corporal reportedly approached the man and carried out a search on his person in the presence of another Police rank. However, nothing of evidential value was found.
A further search was then conducted around the surroundings during which a white plant pot was seen about six feet away from where the suspect was standing. In the plant pot, a black, bulky transparent plastic bag was found.
The bag was opened in his presence and a quantity of ganja was found.
He was then told of the allegation and under caution, he replied saying “da is not me thing big boy, I just come from work”. He was then arrested and escorted to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station, where the ganja was weighed and amounted to 34 grams.
He remains in custody and is assisting with Police investigations.
