A gold miner of Recht door Zee on the West Coast of Demerara, who was busted with a quantity of narcotics, was remanded to prison on Monday, when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Winnick Reed, 23, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which read that on January 28,
2017, at Port Kaituma Waterfront, in Region One (Barima-Waini), he was in possession of 1.4 kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The defence counsel for the defendant requested reasonable bail on the grounds that Reed was a first-time offender with no previous brushes with the law. The prosecution, however, objected to bail and Reed was remanded to prison.
Reed will appear for trial on February 7, 2017 at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
