WCD man slapped with robbery charge

A man hailing from Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara (WCD), was placed before Magistrate Annette Singh on Monday, charged with robbery under arms.

Ivor Billingy of Uitvlugt Pasture pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

It is alleged that on September 2, 2016 at Robb and Water Streets, Georgetown, Billingy robbed Curtis James of an undisclosed amount of cash.

The prosecution contended that the Virtual Complainant (VC), who is the Manager of Electronics City, Water Street, was walking along Robb Street, when he was grabbed from behind and a gun was shoved in his face.

The man was then relieved of his valuables by the defendant, who then made good his escape.

However, on January 10, 2017, the defendant was arrested and placed in an identification (ID) parade where he was positively identified by the VC. As such, he was charged with the present offence.

Magistrate Singh remanded him to prison. The case will continue on January 30.
