A miner was on Thursday stabbed to death by another man at Nine Miles, Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni).
Dead is 36-year-old Seon Grant of Lot 36 De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Based on information received, the now dead man and the suspect were consuming alcohol at a popular drinking spot in the area in the wee hours of Thursday.
Both men left the shop around 01:30h. The suspect reportedly ventured off with his brother. As they journeyed to their camp, the now dead man rode his motorcycle alongside them and accused the suspect of calling him “names”.
It is alleged that Grant came off his motorcycle and started to assault the suspect. This eventually turned into a fight during which the suspect who was armed with a knife, dealt one blow to Grant’s neck and one to the right side of his abdomen.
As a result of the stabbing, Grant reportedly collapsed and was picked up by bystanders who rushed him to the Mahdia Regional Hospital. He was admitted in critical condition. While waiting to be medevacked to Georgetown, the injured man succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect – a 20-year-old chainsaw operator – was arrested, and an investigation was launched into the stabbing incident.
