Geeta ‘Pinky’ Deochand of Lot 12 ‘P’ View Street, Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara has been stabbed at least 20 times about her body allegedly by Rohan Singh, the father of her 3-year-old son, and she is now reportedly battling for her life at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH), where she has been rushed after the incident.
Based on reports received, the 27-year-old mother of one was taking her son to school on Thursday morning at about 08:00h when the 27-year-old suspect rode up to her at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara.
Singh, who works at the Meadow Bank Wharf as a fish cleaner, subsequently request to kiss his son, but the woman did not give him permission, and an argument ensued.
According to information received, the enraged man whipped out a knife from his pants pocket and started to stab the woman in the presence on their three-year-old son.
After committing the act, the man jumped on his pedal cycle and rode away, but was later apprehended by the Police. While in Police custody, he admitted to committing the crime.
The woman was picked up and rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, but was transferred to the WDRH, where she has been admitted.
Guyana Times understands that, only a few days ago, Deochand had taken Singh to court for child support. In light of this development, she refused to allow Singh to kiss his child.
Singh and Deochand have separated close to two years ago, but she would allow him to see his son although he was not contributing to the welfare of the child. She recently became fed up with Singh’s attitude and requested that he live up to his obligation to look after the child.
When money was still not forthcoming, Deochand moved to the courts in order to force Singh to support his child.
The boy is the only child for this couple.
