Weapons, drugs unearthed during raid at Lusignan Prison

Joint Services ranks conducted a raid at the Lusignan Prison where numerous contraband including improvised weapons and drugs were unearthed.
The raid was conducted between 06:33h and 10:00h on Saturday at the B Holding Bay located in the Lusignan Prison compound, East Coast Demerara.
During the search, 26 knives, 44 “juka”, 19 lighters, six pairs of scissors, 12 cell phones, two SIM cards, two memory cards, five razor blades, a quantity of cell phone parts, 10 cell phone chargers, a quantity of metal objects, a quantity of wires, and 83 small transparent ziplock bags of cannabis amounting to 20 grams were found.
Just a week ago, a raid by law enforcement officers at the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara, unearthed a quantity of drugs, improvised weapons and alcohol among other contraband items.
It was reported that ranks of the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Prison Service conducted a search at the Lusignan Prison where the items were discovered.
Among the items seized were 34 improvised weapons, five cellular phones, six lighters, four pieces of broken mirror, three cellular phone chargers, three earpieces, three mobile SIM cards, a bottle of fermented wine, and seven bottles of oil.
All of the items were seized, as well as a quantity of cannabis which weighed 34 grams, and later taken to the Vigilance Police Station and lodged.
