Welder commits suicide after stabbing wife

A 27-year-old welder of Kwakwani, Upper Berbice River, took his own life on Monday, after stabbing his reputed wife during an argument.
Dead is Leon Gobin of Kwakwani Park, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice). Reports are the man stabbed his 37-year-old reputed wife on Sunday at about 23:00h after she threatened to end the relationship. This newspaper was told that during the domestic dispute, Gobin threatened that he would take his life if she left him since if he cannot be with her then no one else will. The woman told investigators that Gobin then broke a beer bottle and dealt her a stab to her upper neck behind her ear. She, however, managed to escape and went to her cousin’s home, situated at Kwakwani First Phrase Housing Scheme. The cousin then took her to the Kwakwani Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and admitted a patient at the health facility.

Meanwhile, on Monday at about 09:00h, the woman’s 14-year-old son went to the house and found it secured by a padlocked hasp and staple from the outside. He managed to make his way inside, where he found Gobin’s body. He raised an alarm and went to the police station where he informed the police of the discovery. The body was taken to the Kwakwani Hospital. A post-mortem examination which was performed by Government pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh at the Memorial Garden Funeral Home and Crematorium Mortuary on Monday revealed that the injuries are consistent with suicide. The body was handed over to relatives for burial.
