Welder remanded for chopping stepson

A Parika, Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) welder is now remanded following a family dispute which resulted in him chopping his stepson on March 19, 2017 at Aranka Landing in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

It is alleged that Suraj Singh unlawfully and maliciously wounded Eon Lewis, who came to his mother’s defence during a heated argument between the accused and his reputed wife.

According to reports, the man had attempted to chop his reputed wife, but his stepson intervened and received the injuries instead.

The prosecution objected to bail and the man was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan until April 6, 2017.

The case will continue at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
