Welfare officer fined for humiliating teacher on social media

A welfare officer who admitted that she humiliated her neighbour via social media was fined $50,000 when she appeared at the Anna Region Magistrate’s Court.
Nicola Nickram of Henrietta, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), admitted to Magistrate Esther Sam that on December 18, 2020, she used a computer system to humiliate Teysheena  Beepat, a resident within her village, on social media.

The 38-year-old, who appeared in court last week, was fined $50,000 and given 24 hours to apologise to the villager, who is a teacher, via social media. Failure to comply will result in her spending 2 months in prison.
