Wellman and Floodlights are the latest teams to register victories when the Nauth’s Motor Spares, Trophy Stall and Mike’s Pharmacy nationwide softball cricket tournaments continued last Sunday at the Hydronie Community Centre ground East Bank Essequibo.
Playing in the over-40 category, Greg De Franca blazed 62 and got support from Sheldon Bovell (36) and Raymond Harper (34) as Wellman piled up 179-6 from their 20 overs before bowling out Sunrisers for 121 to win by a whopping 56 runs. Nandram Samlall bagged 3-26 bowling for the victors while Naresh Narine and R. Gopaul made 26 runs apiece for Sunrisers.

In the second game of the day, Floodlights made light work of Parika Defenders with a 32-run trashing. Veerapen Moonsammy top-scored with 56 while Ramesh Narine contributed 41 of the 171-6 total.
Narine came back with the ball to snare 2-14 to restrict Parika Defenders to 139-9 with Mark Fung showing some resistance with 25.
The tournaments continue on Sunday with action in two categories at two venues. At Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground in Queenstown Georgetown, Floodlights will take on Ariel Masters on Pitch Number One from 10:00h while Wellman will battle Amazon Warriors from 13:00h also on the same pitch in Over-40 action. In the Open category, Regal All Stars will engage Success XI from 10:00h on Pitch Number Two followed by the Speedboat versus Farm XI match up at 13:00h.
At the Hydronie Community Centre Ground, Regal Masters will come up against Parika Defenders from 10:00h.
The tournaments which are organized by the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) is still at the preliminary stage and also includes a female Open category.
