West Demerara Cricket Assn 40-over tournament: Big wins for Belle Vue, VNS, La Grange teams

The West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) recently bowled off their new 40-over tournament, being powered by the generosity of Businessman Jitendra Kishour and his wife Neelan, and
Belle Vue, VNS Cricket Club, La Grange, and Canal Sports Club were among the most recent winners in the fiercely contested competition.
The Belle Vue Cricket Team defeated their All Youths counterparts by 139 runs. Batting first, Belle Vue put up a total of 241, with Lucian Sam striking 66 runs while Devon Harris added 25. Anthony Carrington was the pick of the All Youths bowlers in claiming 2 for 37.
In the chase, All Youths were bundled out for 102 runs, with H Persaud top- scoring with 28. The duo of Joshua Loknauth (2 for 10) and Randy Ramrup (2 for 16) were instrumental with the ball in effecting the win for Belle Vue.

Over at Canal Sports Club Ground, VNS Cricket Club got the better of West Demerara Legends, whom they thrashed by 231 runs. VNS batted first and posted 274 for 9, with Michael Subadar missing out on a century, as he hit 99 runs; while Aditya Kadarnauuth, who was also in fine touch, registered 88. Mohan Chaitram also contributed a well-played 37 to the VNS total.
Bowling for the Legends, Chris Mangal was spot on with 4 for 18, while Avinash Shardandan took 3 for 35.
In their reply, the Legends suffered the humiliation of being bowled out for just 43 runs. Ravindra Ramnarine looked to be the only batsman who could stand up to the VNS bowling, hitting 14 runs.

Aditya Kadarnauuth was the man with the golden arm, gifting VNS with a 6-fer in which he conceded just 13 runs.
Meanwhile, La Grange whipped the Goed Fortuin team by 90 runs on their own home Ground. La Grange batted first and posted 213 all out, with Naresh Persaud producing the top-score of 61 and Tyron Carrington hitting 45 and narrowly missing out on his half-century. Goed Fortuin’s Jarmain Ramroop claimed 3 for 28.
In response, Goed Fortuin found themselves in all sorts of trouble, and were eventually bundled out for 123 runs. K Famery was the only man to put up a resistance, hitting 37 runs, while La Grange’s Christopher Gurdyal was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 for 23.
A separate fixture saw Canal Sports Club beating West Demerara Legends by a whopping 204 runs. Canal got to 271 runs before being bowled out in the first innings, with Narendra Persaud slamming 126, while Vishwanauth Jadunath hit 40 and Yogendra Singh added 36 to the defendable total.
Bowling for the Legends, Avinash Shardandan took 5 for 38 and Imtiaz Sadik took 2 for 46.
In reply, Legends could muster only 67 all out, with Tikoo Safeek contributing 19 runs and Chris Mangal contributing 12 to this small total. Joshua Rahaman took 5 for 11 for Canal, while Emmanuelle Martin picked up an impressive 3 for 3.
